About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Donna Rebecca is a limited-production Brunello sourced from the estate’s best vineyard parcel on the north-east slope of Montalcino Hill, at 300 m above sea level. The medium-textured soils contain clay and marine fossils, with alberese stone in the higher area. Only the best grapes are selected, and the fruit is harvested, vinified and matured separately.

Grapes

The 2021 release is 100% Sangiovese. Harvest ran from late September into early October, with manual picking into crates.

Vinification

Whole berries are vinified directly in small 225 L barrels. Fermentation and maceration last 90 days. Eight bâtonnages are performed each day by rotating the barrique according to a precise Burgundian method.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24 months in barrique.

Technical data

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Alcohol: 15%.

Tasting profile

Bright ruby red. The intense, persistent aroma centres on ripe sour cherry and wild berries before developing spicy and balsamic nuances. The palate is harmonious, elegant and velvety, with structure and character, dense but balanced tannins, and a fresh, enveloping persistence.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 17°C. Pair with structured red-meat dishes, feathered or furred game, and aged Italian or international cheeses. It may also be enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine.

Vintage notes

The 2020 release received 18 months of bottle ageing after its 24 months in barrique; no bottle-ageing duration is specified for 2021. The 2020 profile featured dark cherry, plum, dried roses, black pepper, vanilla and clove, with velvety tannins and a long, fresh finish.
