About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The 2024 wine draws on selected grapes from renowned parts of the Chianti Classico appellation and from historic growers with whom Ruffino maintains long-term partnerships. The vineyards occupy high and medium hills at 240–450 m, on stony soils ranging from clay-loam to loam.

Grapes

The 2024 blend is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot.

Vinification

The best grapes are selected during harvest. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats for approximately 7–12 days, with pumpovers and délestage. Malolactic fermentation follows.

Ageing

The wine matures for 12 months in concrete vats before bottling. It is deliberately made without wood ageing to preserve Sangiovese’s fruit and floral character.

Technical data

2024 vintage; 13% alcohol.

Tasting profile

Ruby red. The aromatic profile combines violet, red berries and cherry with a lightly spicy finish. The palate is fruit-driven and concludes with a medium-long plum finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–18 °C. Its versatile profile suits Tuscan cooking, particularly meat-based pasta courses, as well as spicy and aromatic ethnic dishes.

Vintage notes

The 2024 growing season brought a rainy spring, very high August temperatures and a cooler, rainy September, which slowed grape ripening.

Label / history

Aziano’s first vintage was 1980.
