About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from historic, organically cultivated vineyards at Sansonina in Peschiera del Garda. The vines average 60 years of age and grow at approximately 80 metres above sea level in chalky, clayey and silty soils. They are Guyot trained, carry eight to ten buds and yield 80 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
90% Trebbiano di Lugana and 10% other indigenous varieties.
Vinification
The artisanal vinification uses no selected yeasts. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts begins with a pied de cuve prepared in barrique with whole bunches, then continues in stainless steel at controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine matures on its lees, principally in stainless steel, with a small proportion held in barrique to add complexity.
Tasting profile
Straw yellow with golden reflections. The fresh, complex bouquet recalls the wine’s place of origin through almond, exotic fruit, honey and vanilla, reinforced by a pronounced mineral character. On the palate it is deep, balanced and dry, with vivid minerality, energy and finesse. Its lively character allows further development with time.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 9–10°C. Pair with scampi or prawn tartare, or with oven-roasted white meats.
Label / history
First produced in 2014, the spontaneous-fermentation Lugana marked a change in Sansonina’s approach, introducing a more natural direction that culminated in organic certification in 2023.
