About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Pinot Grigio for "Le Calderare" grows in the winery's own vineyards in the Garda region. Santa Sofia's grapes are carefully selected and come from the sunniest, most open sites.

Vinification

After harvest the grapes go to the winery for a short cold maceration. Fermentation follows in steel tanks under strict temperature control.

Ageing

The wine is aged briefly in stainless-steel vats.

Label / history

The wine is bottled as "Le Calderare". Santa Sofia is housed in a sixteenth-century villa designed by Andrea Palladio, which has become the symbol of the winery. The Begnoni family has owned the cellars since 1960; Giancarlo Begnoni runs the estate with his son Luciano and daughter Patrizia. The text says the winery's wines have witnessed two hundred years of the region's growth and development.
