About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Vinciano wines are made at the Fattoria di Calappiano estate, in the Montalbano area near the village of Vinci. The different expressions of Sangiovese reflect the variety of the local landscape, with sandy, limestone-marl and slate soils containing marine fossils and pebbles. The vineyards lie 700 metres above sea level.

Grapes

The text names the vineyards for this Vinciano as Sangiovese and Colorino, not Canaiolo Nero.

Vinification

The grapes are carefully sorted after harvest. Maceration and fermentation take place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26–28 °C for 10–12 days.

Ageing

The wine stays in the same steel tanks until bottling.

Label / history

Calappiano is the heart of the Sensi company and lies near Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. The estate is also a place of history, art and architectural treasures. The Sensi family has been making wine since 1890.
