About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Le Due Sorelle is a selection from Tenuta La Fuga, made only in the finest vintages. The vineyards lie about 350 m above sea level on the historic Camigliano slope, southwest of Montalcino. Their medium-textured clay soils contain abundant stones, and the vines are trained to low spur-pruned cordons. The current specification gives a planting density of 5,000 vines per hectare. For the 2016 vintage, production averaged approximately 4 tonnes of grapes per hectare, with a grape-to-wine yield of 65%.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel vats. The current specification describes approximately four weeks of maceration, while the selected 2016 technical sheet records fermentation at a controlled 28°C and about 20 days of skin contact.
Ageing
The current specification calls for at least 48 months in large oak barrels followed by bottle ageing. For 2016, the wine spent five years in 25–30 hl Slavonian oak barrels and another 12 months in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14.5%. Ageing potential: more than 30 years. First vintage: 1997.
Tasting profile
The 2016 vintage had a broad, highly complex bouquet moving from plum tea and fruit to cedar and tobacco. It was full-bodied, with soft tannins sustaining a long flavour profile.
Serving and pairing
Pair with Tuscan pecorino aged for 30 months, accompanied by truffle and pumpkin mustard.
Vintage notes
The 2019 growing season began with a cold, dry winter. Rain in spring built water reserves that protected the vines through a dry summer and supported excellent ripening and veraison; cool nights helped preserve aroma and colour. From mid-September, cool, breezy and sunny conditions allowed Sangiovese to complete its maturation with strong aromatic and polyphenolic potential.
Label / history
The name honours sisters Giovanna and Fabia Cornaro—respectively Ambrogio Folonari’s wife and sister-in-law—who owned Tenuta La Fuga.
