Tenuta Prapian

History

Family origins

Tenuta Prapian grew out of the Sacchetto family's long-standing wine business. The family enterprise began in Veneto in the early twentieth century, with Sisto Sacchetto as its founder. By the period following the First World War, Sisto was trading both grapes and wine, combining technical knowledge with commercial ability.

Direct production becomes the goal

During Italy's economic expansion in the 1950s and 1960s, the business developed into a more structured organization. Sisto sought to give the family enterprise a stronger connection to its land of origin by producing grapes directly in family vineyards rather than relying solely on trade.

Sisto's son Filiberto consolidated the company and guided its international expansion over the following decades. He preserved the project of direct grape production and passed it to his children, Paolo and Beatrice.

Tenuta Prapian

The family's ambition to establish itself directly in Veneto's vineyards took material form in Azienda Agricola Prapian, in the Prosecco DOCG Valdobbiadene zone. The estate became the principal agricultural property within the Sacchetto business.

Tenuta Prapian encompasses 45 hectares in the Valdobbiadene DOCG area, including 20 hectares under vine, together with 18 hectares of vineyards in the Asolo–Nervesa DOCG area. Its winery was conceived according to modern principles: designed to evolve operationally while retaining a connection to the place and to the family behind it.

Third-generation management

Filiberto remains active as president. Paolo and Beatrice work alongside him, sharing responsibility for planning, organization, leadership, coordination and control. Together they represent three generations of family involvement, combining the inherited project of estate-grown grapes with innovation and an international outlook.

Sustainability milestones

Photovoltaic panels have operated at the Tarzo production site since 2019. In 2022, Sacchetto's sustainability-management system—including the operational unit at Località Prapian di Tarzo—received its first Equalitas Sustainable Organization certification. The certification was renewed on 1 August 2025 and is valid through 8 August 2028, subject to periodic surveillance and renewal conditions.

Terroir

Valdobbiadene hills

Tenuta Prapian lies in the Prosecco DOCG Valdobbiadene area, a landscape marked by climatic, historical and soil diversity. Its high-hill vineyards occupy terraces and steep slopes. The demanding terrain has helped shape a distinctive cultivated landscape and requires manual harvesting.

The vineyards are associated with the Rive subzone. Multiple microclimates occur across the area, while the distances from both the sea and the first Alpine reliefs contribute to its growing conditions. Soil composition can vary substantially even between neighboring vineyards, creating closely spaced differences within the estate's wider viticultural setting.

The property also includes vineyards in the Asolo–Nervesa DOCG area, extending its holdings beyond Valdobbiadene.

Winemaking

Manual harvestThe steep, terraced vineyards are harvested by hand, with attention to both the environment and the people performing the work.
Complete grape processingThe Tarzo winery handles grape reception, crushing, pressing, destemming, transformation and vinification.
Sparkling-wine productionThe certified Prapian facility produces and ages semi-sparkling and sparkling wines and bottles them in glass.
Process traceabilityControls extend from grape reception to bottling and dispatch, with defined analytical parameters and responsibilities.
Reduced cellar inputsWinemaking aids, additives and nutrients are reviewed annually, while alternatives are tested to reduce consumption without sacrificing the intended result.

Viticulture is guided by an increasingly sustainable approach and respect for the people carrying out the work. Grapes on the steep, terraced hills are harvested manually.

Organic viticulture forms part of the environmental program. Natural methods are used to strengthen the vines and improve their resistance. Rainwater is recovered and reused for irrigation. The wider sustainability program also emphasizes circular use of resources, recycling and reuse of materials.

The approach links environmental responsibility to grape quality: healthier vines and fruit are treated as the basis for wines with a more distinct expression of their origin.

Prapian winery at Tarzo

The production facility is located at Via Arfanta 9, Località Prapian di Tarzo. Operations at Tarzo encompass harvest reception, crushing, pressing, destemming, grape transformation, vinification and maturation. Its certified scope covers the production and aging of semi-sparkling and sparkling wines and bottling in glass.

The winery has a capacity of 10,500 hectolitres and processes approximately 6,000 quintals—about 600 metric tonnes—of grapes per year.

Process control

A technical and operational management system applies to the Tarzo facility. Production procedures define the processes, analytical parameters, checks and assigned responsibilities from the arrival of grapes through bottling, finished-wine handling and dispatch. Traceability is monitored throughout.

Quantities of winemaking aids, additives and nutrients are reviewed annually with the goal of reducing their use. Raw-material quality is emphasized so that less processing is required, while alternative products are tested to identify options that achieve the same enological result with lower consumption.

Cellar resources

Water and energy use have been monitored through dedicated indicators since 2020. Photovoltaic panels have supplied renewable electricity at Tarzo since 2019. Cleaning plans specify detergent and sanitizer quantities in order to reduce water, energy and product consumption. Winery wash water is discharged to the municipal sewer system and its composition is analyzed annually.

Philosophy

Tenuta Prapian presents tradition as the root of continuing evolution rather than as a fixed model. The estate was designed to accommodate operational and technological development while preserving its relationship with the surrounding land and the Sacchetto family's original agricultural project.

The family defines its role through care, commitment and flexibility in both management and production. Filiberto, Paolo and Beatrice regard themselves as custodians of knowledge about the territory and its grapes, while the wider team shares the objective of making wines that express Veneto's land and wine culture.

Innovation is used to connect inherited experience with contemporary tastes. Vinification and maturation are studied with the aim of giving wines a defined personality, supported by analysis, research and control from the internal laboratory.

Environmental responsibility extends across resources, employees, consumers, the community and business partners. The sustainability program is structured around environmental, social and economic considerations, continuous improvement, circular production, organic farming, material reuse, food safety and responsible consumption. The company treats sustainability as a planned, measurable progression rather than a one-time intervention.
