About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from Trimarchisa in Verzella, part of Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyard lies on a ridge of lava soils with limestone deposits, descending toward the Alcantara River. The vines are more than 40 years old, and yields do not exceed 60 quintals/ha.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in October and then selected by hand. They are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation and maceration take place in wooden vats at a controlled temperature, with regular punch-downs. After a short post-fermentation maceration, the wine is gently pressed in a vertical press.

Ageing

The wine matures in 25 hl barrels and cement tanks for 18 months before bottling, followed by at least six months in bottle in the winery’s cellars.

Tasting profile

Structured and powerful, the wine has juicy cherry flavours with toasted oak and mineral notes. Violet and nutmeg aromas are joined by hints of cedar. The tannins are fine, and the palate is balanced, with mineral freshness and depth.
