About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the estate’s vineyards, where the vines grow in clay soils and average 10 years of age.
Grapes
The wine is made from Sangiovese Grosso.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the first week of October at optimal ripeness. They are selected twice by hand: first in the vineyard and then on a sorting table. After fine crushing, the berries ferment in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28–30 °C, with 25 days of maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in 225- and 500-litre barriques, followed by six months in Slavonian oak barrels.
Tasting profile
Plum is characteristic of both the aroma and flavour.
Label / history
“Prunaio” literally means “plum tree,” referring to the wine’s characteristic plum aromas and flavours.
