Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva

1 cantina e 1 vino. Matelica's Verdicchio grows far from the sea, in a valley that runs parallel to the coast rather than down to it. The upper Esino flows north here between the limestone ridges of the Apennines, through eight communes: Matelica, Esanatoglia, Gagliole, Castelraimondo, Camerino and Pioraco in the province of Macerata, and Cerreto d'Esi and Fabriano in Ancona's. Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva in breve

Cut off from the Adriatic's influence, the valley has cold winters and hot summers. Vineyards lie between 250 and 700 metres, most of them between 280 and 480, with one recorded at 720, on moderate slopes. The hills are mainly calcarenite and pelite, marl and limestone, with some conglomerate and sandstone, and the climate is that of the high hills, with more than 700 to 800 mm of rain and an average below 14 °C.

The Riserva must be at least 85 per cent Verdicchio, from vineyards yielding no more than 9.5 tonnes a hectare, and it ages at least 18 months from the first of December of the harvest year before release. It was first recognised as a style of the Verdicchio di Matelica DOC in 1995 and became a DOCG in 2010.
