Barbera del Monferrato Superiore

Barbera del Monferrato Superiore in breve
The wine must be at least 85 per cent Barbera, and the rest may only be the Monferrato's other traditional reds — Freisa, Grignolino and Dolcetto. The vineyards stand no higher than 650 metres, mostly pruned to Guyot, the system growers here have found best suited to the grape and the climate: temperate to warm, little wind, around 700 mm of rain.
Only the ripest grapes go into it, and it ages at least 14 months from the first of November of the harvest year, six of them in oak casks of any size, before release — deep ruby turning garnet, full-bodied and rounder with time. Barbera del Monferrato was recognised as a DOC in 1970; the Superiore became a DOCG in 2008.
