Bardolino Superiore
2 cantine. On the eastern shore of Lake Garda, the glaciers that carved the lake left behind a series of concentric moraine hills facing the water. Their soils are gravelly, deep and very varied, and they warm quickly at the end of winter, so the vines bud, flower and ripen early and evenly even in difficult years. Bardolino Superiore in breve
Bardolino Superiore is the Bardolino made from riper grapes and lower yields for keeping: Corvina 35 to 80 per cent (with up to a fifth of it Corvinone), Rondinella 10 to 40, Molinara up to 15 and other local reds up to 20. It must age at least a year from the first of November of the harvest. The oldest part of the zone, around Bardolino itself and closest to the lake, is the Classico.
Wine was made here in Roman and medieval times, but the name Bardolino attached to it only in the nineteenth century, and writers from 1897 on noted small lots made with more care that could take some age. Bardolino became a DOC in 1968; in 2001 its Superiore became the first red DOCG of the Veneto, with the first bottles released at the end of 2002.
