Piave Malanotte/Malanotte del Piave
Detto anche Malanotte del Piave
Along the Piave, from where the river opens into the Treviso plain down to the Venetian lagoon, the vineyards of the middle and lower plain grow Raboso, a late, tannic and sharply acidic grape. The soils are called warm: glacial and then river gravels, very stony, deep for roots, never waterlogged, poor in organic matter but well supplied with phosphorus and magnesium. Summers are warm, winters never too cold, and cool north-easterly air brings bigger day-night swings in the north of the zone. Continua a leggere ↓

Piave Malanotte in breve
Piave Malanotte tames Raboso with dried grapes. It must be at least 70 per cent Raboso Piave and up to 30 per cent Raboso Veronese, and between 15 and 30 per cent of the grapes are dried and may not be crushed before 8 December. The wine ages at least 36 months from the first of November of the harvest year, twelve of them in cask and four in bottle. Vines may still be trained on the old Bellussi system, the radiating raggi, at 1,250 plants a hectare.
The name comes from Borgo Malanotte, a medieval hamlet in Tezze di Piave at the centre of production. Vine growing here goes back to Roman times and flourished again under the Republic of Venice. The DOCG was created in 2010.
