Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from hillside vineyards in the Valpolicella Classico area, northwest of Verona. The terrain is of Neolithic origin, with thin, stony soils. The vines average 20–35 years of age.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in early October, selecting slightly overripe bunches. After drying, they are destemmed and gently pressed in the first days of February. The must then undergoes a long fermentation, followed by decanting.
Ageing
The wine matures for two years in large oak botti, followed by 12 months in new French oak barriques and a further 6–8 months in bottle.
Vintage notes
The 2015 growing season in Veneto began with a very warm winter and spring, with temperatures above average, followed by a very dry summer. Water scarcity placed the vines under considerable stress, resulting in higher concentrations of polyphenols and sugars. Harvest began around ten days earlier than usual, and yields were approximately 10% lower. Vines that withstood the difficult conditions produced grapes with excellent ripeness. The resulting Amarone wines were mature and stylish, with substantial capacity for extended ageing.
