Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from selected vineyards in Magrè, Cortaccia, Pochi and Salorno, at elevations of 230–500 m. Sandy, stony soils with a substantial limestone component characterize these sites. Chardonnay was introduced to Alto Adige by Archduke Johann around 1835 and became an important variety for the estate. The calcareous gravel soils around Magrè were also a significant consideration when the Lageder family acquired the Löwengang estate in 1934.
