Vineyard and terroir

Selected fruit comes from the Tannhammer and Lehen estates near Terlano. The vineyards are situated at 250–520 m on soils of volcanic origin. A warm mesoclimate is moderated by marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures. The vines range from 4 to 63 years old.

Grapes

The grapes are selected before vinification.

Vinification

Harvest takes place from early September to mid-October. The grapes are gently pressed, and the must ferments in vats and stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

The wine matures on its lees for four months.

Label / history

Johann Lageder founded the winery in 1823, built its cellar and began selling its wines. His son Alois inherited the business in 1855 and expanded it by acquiring vineyards. Following the death of Alois IV in 1963, his widow, Christina Rössler, and their 21-year-old eldest daughter, Wendelgard, assumed leadership of the company. Wendelgard married oenologist Luis von Dellemann in 1969, after which he took charge of winemaking. The company subsequently passed to Wendelgard’s brother, Alois Lageder, who combines modern and traditional methods. The winery has remained in the family for five generations, and since 1990 approximately 50 ha of its vineyards have been farmed according to biodynamic principles.
