Questo vino

Vineyard and terroir

A cru from the Capitel Croce vineyard at the summit of Zoppega hill, in the municipality of Monteforte d’Alpone. The vineyard lies beside the sanctuary that gives the wine its name. The soil is limestone, and the vines are trained to Guyot and alberello.

Grapes

Garganega and Incrocio Manzoni are joined by Chardonnay and a selection of semi-aromatic resistant PIWI varieties. Exact proportions are not specified; the selection is designed to express the cru’s style, origin and terroir.

Vinification

Meticulously selected grapes are harvested into small crates. They are gently pressed under inert atmosphere, and the must is settled before fermentation in Allier barriques.

Ageing

The wine remains in the same Allier barriques for four to five months, with weekly bâtonnage. Extended lees contact contributes ripe-fruit nuances to the aromatic profile.

Technical data

Production is 13,000 bottles in 750 ml format. The stated ageing potential is 25 years.

Tasting profile

Bright, intense straw yellow. Aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit, peanut and mimosa are framed by ripe-fruit notes developed during prolonged lees contact. Creamy, compact and full-bodied on the palate, with appealing savouriness and a very persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Pairs with fish soups, white meats and mushrooms, and is also recommended with vitello tonnato.

Label / history

The wine is named after the sanctuary adjoining the vineyard on Zoppega hill.
