Vineyard and terroir

The Pian delle Vigne estate lies 6 km from Montalcino and covers 180 ha. Its 65 ha of vineyards occupy the southeastern part of the property, on slopes at 130–200 m above sea level. The soils contain clay, chalk and fine gravel.

Vinification

For the 2017 vintage, harvesting began in early September and finished on 26 September. The grapes were destemmed and gently pressed, then fermented and macerated in stainless-steel tanks for approximately 12 days at 28 °C. Malolactic fermentation followed.

Ageing

The wine matured for two years in oak barrels ranging from 30 to 80 hl, followed by a long period in bottle.

Tasting profile

An unusual and elegant expression of Sangiovese, with preserved varietal integrity and the bright elegance associated with Brunello.

Vintage notes

The 2017 winter, spring and summer were hot and dry. These conditions caused early budbreak, restricted vine growth and produced smaller bunches, which remained healthy and undamaged through harvest.

Label / history

In the 19th century, Pian delle Vigne was the name of the railway station on the estate’s land.
