Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The Vermentino is grown in soils containing marl and limestone.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested earlier than usual to give a more delicate wine with a lower alcohol content. All initial stages, including gentle pressing and natural settling at a constant 10–12 °C, take place in an oxygen-free environment to protect the must from oxidation. Fermentation lasts 15–20 days at a controlled 16–17 °C.
Ageing
The wine is aged for several months in stainless steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Refined and balanced, combining freshness with gently savory notes. Distinctive, delicate and refreshing, with an expressive aroma.
Serving and pairing
Suited to a summer evening, in keeping with its name.
Label / history
"Meri" means "evening" in the Sardinian dialect. The label features a bird. The wine is part of a joint project with Italy's Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR), and is made from a native grape variety using modern technology.
Francesco Argiolas planted his first vine in the early twentieth century. His son Antonio, born in 1906, continued the work. Antonio was a gardener, farmer and salesman who started almost from scratch with four hectares of vineyards. He reinvested all the profits in the business, adding cellars, a mill and a small dairy operation, and led the company for more than seventy years. The estate now has 30 ha of vineyards and olive groves and is run by the fourth generation, who continue Antonio's idea of bringing the flavours and aromas of Sardinia to the world.
