Vineyard and terroir
Cicinis comes from a terraced Sauvignon Blanc vineyard on the hill of the same name, at the foot of Monte Calvario (Podgora) in Collio Goriziano. The soils comprise sand and silt produced by the disintegration of Eocene sandstone known locally as Ponca, formed over an ancient seabed. The vines are Guyot-trained at a density of 6,250 plants per hectare; the 2024 yield was 65 q/ha (6.5 t/ha).
Grapes
Sauvignon Blanc. Collio DOC Sauvignon Blanc 2024.
Vinification
The 2024 grapes were harvested manually into crates at dawn, allowing careful bunch selection. Whole bunches were pressed gently, and the resulting free-run must was clarified by static settling for 24 hours. Alcoholic fermentation took place in three components: 40% in egg-shaped concrete tanks, 10% in new barriques, and the remaining 50% in second- and third-use barriques and tonneaux. Malolactic fermentation was prevented.
Ageing
Cicinis matured for seven months on its full lees in the same concrete and wooden vessels used for fermentation.
Technical data
2024 alcohol: 13.5% vol.
Tasting profile
The 2024 is an intense, brilliant straw yellow. Its broad, refined bouquet combines boxwood, bergamot, grapefruit and sage with toasted almond and flint; nuances derived from wood add depth and integration. The palate opens with a decisive, vibrant impression. Its structure is vertical yet enveloping, supported by fresh acidity and well-integrated savouriness, and concludes with a long, precise and persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Pair with richer pork dishes such as sausages or ribs, tomato-free pulse soups, mushroom cream soup, or pot-cooked chicken with vegetables.
Vintage notes
The 2024 winter was mild, with rainfall close to normal. Above-average early-spring rain gave way to stable, sunny conditions and even vegetative growth. Alternating heat and restorative rainfall in June and July supported ripening without water stress in August. The sunniest terraces were picked in early September, producing fruit marked by acidity and citrus aromas; the last parcels, harvested in the second half of the month, contributed greater softness and exotic, tropical notes.
Label / history
Cicinis takes its name from both its vineyard and the hill on which it grows. It is presented as Attems’ emblematic wine.
