Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from approximately 5 ha of south-west-facing vineyards at 200–300 m above sea level. Sedimentary soils contain marine fossils, pebbles and calcareous agglomerations. The 30-year-old vines are trained to Double Guyot at 4,500 vines per hectare and yield approximately 70 quintals per hectare.
Viticulture is inspired by biodynamic principles. No herbicides or pesticides are used; fertilisation is based on biodynamic preparations, shredded pruning material and green manure from grasses and legumes.
Grapes
Grechetto is described as the area’s oldest traditional grape variety, cultivated on these hills since Etruscan and Roman times.
Vinification
Harvest is manual and takes place between August and September. Fermentation proceeds in stainless steel for 20 days with indigenous yeasts at 15–20 °C.
Tasting profile
Brilliant straw-yellow. The nose is fruity and rich. The palate is varietal, round and complex, showing ripe fruit and a light almond finish. Its profile combines softness and intensity with freshness of expression and a firm structure.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12 °C. Pair with first courses, shellfish, boiled or baked fish, fried dishes and white meat.
Label / history
The wine is Barberani’s interpretation of Grechetto, a variety associated with the local landscape since antiquity.
