Vineyard and terroir

Le Lucciole comes from approximately 2 ha of south-west-facing vineyards at 200–250 m above sea level. The sedimentary soils contain marine fossils, pebbles and calcareous agglomerations. The 20-year-old vines are trained to Double Guyot at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare, producing approximately 70 quintals per hectare.

Viticulture is inspired by biodynamic principles. Herbicides and pesticides are not used; the vineyards are fertilised with biodynamic preparations, shredded pruning material and green manure from grasses and legumes.

Grapes

Vermentino. The variety is valued here for its freshness, aromatic elegance, complexity and mineral character.

Vinification

The grapes are picked manually between August and September. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts takes place in stainless steel for 20 days at 15–20 °C. A short period of skin contact adds depth and character.

Ageing

The wine matures on its fine lees, building structure and supporting harmonious development over time.

Tasting profile

Bright straw-yellow with golden highlights. The bouquet is elegant and intense, with citrus, white flowers and delicate iodine notes. The palate is fresh, savoury and enveloping, marked by pronounced minerality and a persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 10–12 °C. Pair with seafood, fish carpaccio, shellfish, fresh cheeses and delicate first courses.

Label / history

The name means “The Fireflies.” During the 1970s, Vittorio Barberani used a small amount of Vermentino to enrich the Orvieto blend. Continued work with the variety eventually led to this standalone expression.
