Vineyard and terroir

Arboreus comes from low hills between Trevi and Montefalco at approximately 200 m above sea level. The east–southwest-facing vineyard has clay soil interspersed with gravel layers. Vines are wire-trained at a density of 2,400 plants per hectare, with a reported yield of 80 q/ha.

Grapes

100% Trebbiano Spoletino.

Vinification

The late harvest took place by hand during the second half of October 2006. Grapes were carried in small stainless-steel containers and destemmed on the day of harvest. Fermentation and skin maceration lasted 21 days, without added sulfur or forced stabilization.

Ageing

The wine spent two years in stainless steel, including 232 days on the lees. It was bottled on 25 September 2008 and rested in dark, quiet storage for at least nine months before the first releases in late spring 2009.

Technical data

Alcohol: 13.5%. Production: 3,300 individually numbered 750 ml bottles.

Tasting profile

Aromas evoke very ripe apricot, dried flowers and honey. Natural maturation continues in bottle, and sediment may form.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20 °C after uncorking several hours in advance. Following even a short journey, allow the bottle to settle for at least 15 days. Recommended with pasta dishes, grilled fish, vegetables and fresh fruit.

Vintage notes

The 2006 harvest, identified as the third release, followed a very balanced growing season judged “good.” With suitable storage, the wine was expected to drink well beyond five years from harvest.
