Storia

Family background

Gianni Bennati inherited an interest in commerce and quality food-and-wine products from his father, Carlo. Before establishing the family company, Gianni began working as a sales agent for major Italian businesses, initially using his Vespa Primavera as what he later described as a shop on two wheels. Enza Palazzotto brought a complementary retail background: by the age of 21, she was store manager of what was then described as Europe’s largest Benetton shop.

Foundation in 1984

Gianni Bennati and Enza Palazzotto founded Alimentari Carletto Snc in November 1984. Its original activity was the distribution of food products to the HO.RE.CA. channel. This distribution business became the foundation for Bennati’s later specialization in gastronomic gift assortments and corporate gifts.

The company subsequently adopted the Bennati family name and developed its business around the selection, assembly and distribution of food-and-wine gift packages. Its stated principles emphasized abundance, tangible product quality, fair pricing, reliable service and avoidance of unnecessary packaging or expense.

Development of the wine offering

Wine became part of a broader gastronomic retail and gift operation. Enoteca Bennati now combines bottles from Italian and international producers with the Bennati family’s own wine label, Le Anse. The assortment extends across sparkling, red, white and rosé wines, dessert wines, grappa and other distillates.

Le Anse is described as a family label maintained for more than three generations. Its name commemorates the bends of the Naviglio running through the countryside associated with the company’s origins and around Cassinetta di Lugagnano. Historical catalogues have grouped Le Anse wines across several Italian regional and denominational categories, while the contemporary shop continues to present the label as Bennati’s local family wine brand.

Environmental management and social commitments

For more than 20 years, Bennati’s process-quality and environmental-management systems have carried TÜV-backed ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. ICEA certification recognizes the business as an organic-products operator; its certified organic assortment has included wine alongside food products. This status concerns the selection and handling of organic catalogue references rather than estate viticulture.

In 2018 Bennati began supporting Banco Alimentare through its gift business, allocating part of the value of purchases to food assistance. The partnership had generated the equivalent of 2.9 million donated meals by the latest published company total.

Bennati became a Società Benefit in 2021, formally combining its commercial objectives with commitments concerning people, communities and the environment. Its wine packaging forms part of this policy: bottle packs use compact, recycled and recyclable materials and FSC-certified cardboard.

In 2023 the company expanded its catalogue with additional wines, broadening the selection offered through Enoteca Bennati.

Filosofia

Quality and value

Bennati’s commercial philosophy centers on tangible, certified quality, abundance and a fair relationship between contents and price. The business rejects unnecessary presentation and expense in favor of substantial products, carefully assembled gifts, reliable service and transparent pricing. Product selection, supplier control, package preparation and delivery are treated as parts of the same quality system.

Family continuity

The company presents family identity as central to its work. Gianni and Enza Bennati connect the business with their children, employees and customers, while the Le Anse label is treated as a continuation of a family tradition spanning more than three generations.

Environmental responsibility

Environmental policy is influenced by Bennati’s location in Cassinetta di Lugagnano, within the Parco del Ticino. The company seeks to reduce the environmental effect of its activities, limit waste and make efficient use of materials. Its packaging policy favors compact formats, recycled and recyclable materials and FSC-certified cardboard. Plastic film has been removed from gift packaging, and shipping packs are designed to optimize space.

Social responsibility

As a Società Benefit, Bennati combines profit with formal commitments to people, communities and the environment. Purchases contribute to initiatives supporting environmental protection, scientific research and people in need. The long-running partnership with Banco Alimentare converts part of the value of gift sales into food assistance.
