Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in clay soils containing iron oxide. Borgoluce’s vineyards cover 65 ha in the Alpine foothills of Treviso, between the hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. The mountain slopes face south, giving the grapes prolonged exposure to the sun’s warmth. The estate keeps pesticide use to a minimum and operates entirely with renewable energy.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested from late September to early October, sorted and gently pressed. Maceration with pump-overs lasts 15–20 days, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature of 20–25 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in Slovenian oak barrels, followed by 12 months in bottle.
Label / history
The vineyards have belonged to the Collalto family for more than 1,000 years.
