Vineyard and terroir
Limonte comes from an estate vineyard on a hill overlooking Rocchetta Tanaro. The site was planted in 2010 at 5,500 vines per hectare and faces south-east. Its soil is 40% silt, 30% sand and 30% clay. The silty component—limo in Italian—gave the vineyard and wine their name and contributes to its structure.
Grapes
100% Grignolino.
Vinification
Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel.
Ageing
Approximately four months in stainless-steel tanks are followed by another two months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Bright garnet red with ruby highlights. The floral bouquet centres on rose and freshly cut hay, with apricot, yellow plum, wild strawberry, raspberry and cherry. Fresh and vinous on the palate, it is elegantly fleshy and repeats the rose and fruit notes with equal intensity. Fine tannins become increasingly prominent through the taste, while balance and persistence define the finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 8–12°C in spring and summer, or 15–18°C in autumn and winter. Available in a 0.75 L bottle.
Label / history
The wine expresses Braida’s long-standing commitment to Grignolino. Its name derives from the silt-rich soil of the Limonte property. The first Limonte vintage was 2014.
