Storia
1880
Cascina Bruciata's first owner, Mr Diena, decided to sell the estate. He offered it to Giovanni Balbo, his most experienced and trusted worker. Balbo was grateful and proud but, as a farmer of modest means, could not afford to pay for the land outright. Diena, a businessman who believed in him, allowed Balbo to defer payment for the property.
The First Year
Balbo's first year in charge was exceptionally difficult, marked by a rainy growing season. Farmers on neighboring properties had little faith in the harvest and made fun of Giovanni. With the help of his seven sons, who worked constantly in the vineyards, Balbo managed to grow exceptional grapes despite the poor weather. As other growers suffered heavy losses, he was able to ask a high price for his grapes. This allowed him to repay his debt quickly, become the estate's official owner, and name it Cascina Bruciata.
2000
Cascina Bruciata's wines entered the international market.
Terroir
The estate's vineyards are located in Rio Sordo, described as one of the most prestigious and classic crus in the Barbaresco wine region, an area known for distinctive, elegant wines with plenty of character and emotional appeal.
Vinificazione
In Balbo's first year running the estate, a rainy growing season made conditions difficult. His seven sons worked constantly in the vineyards, and despite the poor weather they managed to grow exceptional grapes while neighboring growers suffered heavy losses.
