Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow near Pian di Castagnè, the highest point in the Marcellise Valley. The vineyards follow a broken mountain ridge rising towards Pian di Castagnè, where a distinctive mountain microclimate supports the cultivation of Valpolicella’s native black grape varieties. The dense soils reach depths of 20–30 metres and comprise layers of white clay and gravel. They retain water without allowing it to accumulate, providing the roots with moisture during dry periods.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and dried in baskets for four months. They are then crushed and undergo extended skin maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine rests for 12 months in stainless-steel tanks and then for two years in oak barrels. It matures for a further two years in bottle.
