Vineyard and terroir
Vigna Montosoli Filari Lunghi occupies an elevated, north-northwest-facing site in the Montosoli cru at 215–255 metres above sea level. Planted in 1997, it is trained to spur-pruned cordon with 2.90 × 0.80 metre spacing. Galestro, abundant stones and a very high mineral component combine with a clay-loam texture rich in silt. The stony fraction raises the soil pH. The site produces structured, savoury and mineral wines with acidity suited to long ageing.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks with gentle daily pump-overs. The 2021 remained on its skins for 25 days.
Ageing
Maturation lasts 36 months in 25-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks.
Technical data
The 2021 contains 14.5% alcohol. Production comprised 3,863 bottles of 750 ml and 135 magnums.
Tasting profile
Montosoli emphasises the savoury, vertical side of the estate’s Sangiovese. Its defining traits are mineral tension, salinity, length and depth, together with a more pronounced tannic framework. The 2021 adds marked floral and aromatic richness while retaining the cru’s characteristic freshness and energy.
Vintage notes
The 2021 growing season moved between contrasting conditions. An April frost lowered yields, while the summer remained dry and warm without sustained extreme heat. Strong day–night temperature shifts, timely rain at the end of August and stable September weather preserved acidity and supported complete phenolic maturity. Vigna Montosoli was harvested on 22 September 2021. The vintage combines freshness and vibration with structure, rounded texture and depth.
Label / history
The first vintage was 2018. Vigna Montosoli was introduced to capture the recognisable identity of the namesake vineyard and the saline, vertical expression it gives to Sangiovese.
