Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards planted on the soils known as “Matile.” These yellowish soils contain volcanic material that glints in sunlight. They are very hard but also highly friable and are rich in potassium and trace elements. The line’s rosé wines are associated with fruit and a persistent mineral, woodland-like undertone.
Grapes
Pinot Grigio.
Technical data
Umbria IGP. Dry rosé wine. Alcohol: 12.5% vol. The vintage presented is 2019.
Tasting profile
A delicate rose-petal colour. Hawthorn blossom is joined by pineapple, pear and a light wild-strawberry note. Freshness and savouriness are well balanced on the palate, with notable persistence.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 8 °C. Suitable as an aperitif and particularly suited to shellfish, raw seafood and tagliolini with lemon.
Label / history
“Matile” takes its name from the soil type found in the vineyards used for the line. An alternative interpretation associates it with the Etruscan word “Papile,” meaning “able to light up,” evoking the volcanic material that makes the ground sparkle in the sun.
