Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese Grosso is grown in Carpineto’s own vineyards in Montalcino, at around 500 metres above sea level, one of the highest points in the appellation. The north-facing vineyards lie on sedimentary soils dating to the Pliocene epoch, around 15 million years ago. Dense surrounding woodland shelters the vines from westerly winds.
Grapes
The wine is made from Sangiovese Grosso.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness. A short maceration is followed by fermentation at a strictly controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine matures for 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels of various sizes, followed by 4–6 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
The nose is intense and complex, with berry aromas and notes of Mediterranean herbs. Fresh acidity supports an elegant structure.
