Vineyard and terroir
Bric Quercia forms part of the hillside that creates a natural amphitheatre around the winery at Piobesi d’Alba. The Barbera vineyard covers 2.00 ha and has a reported yield of 70 q/ha.
Grapes
100% Barbera.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place at 28°C with submerged-cap maceration for 10–12 days.
Ageing
The wine matures in oak tonneaux for at least 12 months. Bottle maturation then continues until the wine reaches a minimum total ageing period of 24 months, twice the 12-month minimum cited for the Superiore category.
Technical data
Barbera d’Alba DOC Superiore. Produced since 1992. Available in 0.375, 0.75, 1.5, 3, 6, 9 and 12 L formats.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red. The broad, complex bouquet shows vanilla and black cherry; the wine page also describes ripe fruit and a lighter vanilla accent. Full and fresh on the palate, it is savoury, harmonious and persistent.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18°C. Pair with rich first courses, meat main courses, game and cheeses.
