Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from 3.50 hectares of estate-owned Cascina Bordino parcels on the eastern side of Treiso. These steep plots are among the best exposed on the hillside. Sandy ground interspersed with silty grey marl creates a lean, compact soil. The site yields Nebbiolo suited to extended skin contact and prolonged maturation.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo, with a stated yield of 70 q/ha.
Vinification
Fermentation with submerged-cap maceration lasts 10–12 days at 28°C.
Ageing
Ageing begins in oak tonneaux and continues in large barrels for a minimum of 36 months. After bottling, maturation continues until the wine has completed at least 50 months from 1 November of the harvest year.
Technical data
Barbaresco Riserva DOCG. The first production year was 1989. Available formats range from 0.375 to 12 litres.
Tasting profile
Bright, lively garnet red with purple nuances. The intense bouquet layers wild rose, violet and ripe red fruit with spicy, ethereal accents. Elegant and complex on the palate, it is full-bodied and fruit-rich, with dense yet silky-soft tannins, fine balance and drinkability.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20°C. Pair with rich first courses, red meat, braised dishes, game or mature cheeses.
