Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from 3.50 ha of estate-owned Cascina Bordino parcels on the eastern side of Treiso. These steep vineyards are among the best exposed on the hillside. Sandstone soils with inclusions of grey silty marl are lean and compact. The site yields Nebbiolo suited to extended skin contact and wines distinguished by aromatic intensity, elegance and complexity.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo, with a stated yield of 70 q/ha.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place at 28°C with submerged-cap maceration lasting 10–12 days.

Ageing

The wine ages first in oak tonneaux and then in large barrels for at least 36 months. After bottling, maturation continues until the wine has completed a minimum of 50 months calculated from 1 November of the harvest year.

Technical data

The first vintage was 1989. Formats comprise 0.375 L, 0.75 L, 1.5 L, 3 L, 6 L, 9 L and 12 L.

Tasting profile

Lively garnet red with purple nuances. The intense bouquet combines wild rose, violet and ripe red fruit with spicy and ethereal notes. The palate is elegant, complex, fruity and full-bodied, with dense, soft and silky tannins, balance and easy drinkability.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20°C. Pair with rich first courses, red meats, braised meats, game and mature cheeses.

Label / history

Cascina Bordino reflects Tenuta Carretta’s long association with Nebbiolo-based wines. Its inaugural vintage was 1989.
