Vineyard and terroir
The 4.50 ha vineyard area lies across Piobesi d’Alba, Alba and Treiso. The blend now incorporates fruit from several mid-slope vineyards. On the left bank of the Tanaro, loose soils are dominated by stratified yellow sands alternating with bands of calcareous marl and gravel; vineyards on the right bank occupy older, more compact soils.

85% Nebbiolo and 15% Barbera, with a stated yield of 75 q/ha.
Vinification
Fermentation and maceration last 10–12 days at 28°C.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least six months in oak tonneaux, then passes to stainless-steel vats before bottling. Bottle maturation lasts at least six months in the technical sheet, while the wine page gives four months.

Label / history
The value of Podio’s grapes was recorded in a 1467 notarial deed. Count Damiano granted the estate to stewards under a sharecropping arrangement, but reserved all grapes from Podio for the castle, expressed in the historical wording “salvo et riservato vites Podii Serrae.”
