Vineyard and terroir
The 3.8-hectare L’Apparita vineyard comprises several small plots at the top of the larger Vigneto Bellavista. Merlot was planted there between 1982 and 1985. The estate’s vineyards lie at an altitude of 500 m, with rich soils and a favourable climate.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-September and undergo two selections: first in the vineyard and then on sorting tables at the winery. After destemming and gentle pressing, fermentation and maceration take place in stainless-steel tanks at 32–33 °C for four weeks, with continuous skin contact. Malolactic fermentation takes place in Allier oak barrels and is completed in November.
Ageing
The wine matures in oak barrels for 14 months, with new barrels accounting for half of the vessels used.
Tasting profile
Well structured, with a delicate balance among its elements.
Label / history
First produced in 1985, L’Apparita is Castello di Ama’s oldest wine.
