Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie at 340 m with southeastern exposure. The vines are trained using both the traditional Abruzzo pergola and a vertical trellis system. Deep clay soils have a rich texture, and the yield is 10 t/ha.
Grapes
100% Montepulciano.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in October and carefully selected, with part of the crop picked overripe. Fermentation takes place on the skins at 30°C in 150-hl vats, accompanied by frequent pump-overs and délestage. Maceration lasts more than 40 days, with malolactic fermentation occurring while the wine remains on the skins.
Ageing
The wine matures sur lie for 12 months in wooden barrels, followed by more than 6 months in bottle.
