Vineyard and terroir
Vigna del Cristo is made from the 5-hectare Cristo vineyard in the hamlet of Cristo, at the heart of the Sorbara D.O.C. area and 200 metres from the Secchia River.
Grapes
100% Lambrusco di Sorbara.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand, softly pressed and cooled in small tanks at low temperature for 2–3 days. After settling, the decanted must is transferred to a pressurized steel tank and fermented slowly at 15–18 °C until all sugar is depleted.
Ageing
The wine remains on its lees for at least 120 days using the long Martinotti method before bottling.
Technical data
Lambrusco di Sorbara D.O.C. semi-sparkling dry wine. Alcohol: 11% vol. Residual sugar: 7 g/L. Formats: 75 cl and 1.5 L.
Tasting profile
Light purplish red with cyclamen hues and dusty-pink froth. Intense violet aromas combine with raspberry and strawberry. The palate is full and mouth-filling, with a pleasant acidulous note, balanced dryness, and the raspberry, strawberry and cherry character associated with Lambrusco di Sorbara.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 8–10 °C. Seafood pairings range from crudités to shellfish and oyster platters. Traditional Emilian partners include Prosciutto di Parma, Culatello di Zibello and Parmigiano Reggiano.
Label / history
Created in 1987 to celebrate the winery's 60th anniversary, Vigna del Cristo takes its name from the Cristo vineyard and was conceived as a single-varietal expression of Lambrusco di Sorbara.
