Tasting profile
The nose is elegant, sinuous and complex, with attractive spicy tones. The palate is full and rounded, carrying aromas of Artemisia, spices, herbs and flowers. Pronounced sweetness is balanced by an herbal bitter note, while the texture remains velvety.
Serving and pairing
Serve cold. It may be enjoyed neat or over ice; the preferred presentation adds two ice cubes, an orange slice and lemon peel expressed over the wine before being placed in the glass. Vermouth also serves as a principal component of classic mixed drinks.
Label / history
Aromatized wines have ancient precedents, when spices and honey were added to wine. Their purposes ranged from flavour and digestion to masking flaws in highly perishable wines. Venice's historic spice trade helped make such drinks fashionable among affluent consumers. The modern form of vermouth emerged in Turin during the second half of the 18th century and is associated with herbalist Antonio Benedetto Carpano. Vermouth and spirits subsequently became foundational ingredients in cocktail culture.
