Storia

Beginnings in fortified wine — 1973

Sparla & Gerardi began operating in 1973 as a traditional, family-run wine business specializing in sweet fortified wines intended principally for the end of a meal.

The Cicali family and Toscanavini — 1985

By 1985, the Cicali family owned Toscanavini. This existing activity formed the business background from which the family would subsequently acquire Sparla & Gerardi.

Acquisition and relocation — 1990

In 1990, the Cicali family acquired the Sparla & Gerardi brand. The family transferred its headquarters to Lastra a Signa, in the province of Firenze, for logistical and organizational reasons.

The renewed premises combined the quality standards developed by the older business with new technologies for process control and monitoring. The relocation therefore marked both a change of ownership and an operational modernization.

Creation of Giglio di Sparla & Gerardi — 2014

The Giglio di Sparla & Gerardi brand was created in 2014 to express the portfolio’s strong association with Toscana more clearly. It united the historic Sparla & Gerardi identity with a name and presentation centered on Tuscan character.

Filosofia

The business defines its approach through tradition, passion and close attention to production. Its stated objective is to make genuine products that remain contemporary rather than treating tradition as a fixed historical formula.

Continuity is central to this identity: established standards are preserved while control and monitoring technologies are incorporated into the production environment. The creation of the Giglio di Sparla & Gerardi name further emphasizes the portfolio’s cultural and sensory association with Toscana.
