Vineyard and terroir
Vergaro is normally assembled from different vineyard parcels selected according to the growing season. The 2024 vintage came exclusively from Valerio's new vineyard, at 250 m above sea level with an eastern exposure. The predominantly clay soil supports vines from plantings that ordinarily span 1975–2021. The vineyards receive no fertiliser and retain spontaneous ground cover; single and double Guyot pruning and under-row management are performed manually.
Grapes
A Verdicchio-based white; the percentage is not specified.
Vinification
For 2024, the grapes were picked early in September to preserve lively fruit and acidity. They underwent gentle crushing followed by must settling. Fermentation occurred spontaneously in stainless steel. Vergaro is usually blended at harvest from the grapes best suited to an earlier picking date. Bottling follows light filtration intended to retain the wine's integrity.
Ageing
Approximately 11 months in stainless steel on fine lees, adding complexity while providing natural protection.
Tasting profile
The nose combines delicate white flowers with light citrus notes characteristic of Verdicchio. The palate is fluid yet enveloping and persistent, with herbal accents and an intensely saline, almond-toned finish. Fresh, approachable and easy to drink, it gains additional dimension from prolonged lees contact.
Serving and pairing
Suited to a regional aperitif, fried fish, local cured meats and light Mediterranean dishes. Estimated ageing potential is 2–5 years. Available in 750 ml bottles.
Label / history
The name evokes the vergaro, a traditional Marche farmer. Conceived as an informal, rustic yet welcoming wine, it favours rural directness over ceremony.
