Label / history
“Plavis” is the Latin name for the Piave, a river flowing entirely through Veneto. De Stefani created the wine as a tribute to the river, known as the “river sacred to the homeland.” The Piave was a major theatre of fighting from November 1917 to November 1918 during the First World War. Its banks saw two decisive battles: one that halted the Austro-Hungarian advance following the collapse of the front at Caporetto, and another that regained lost ground, crossed the river, and brought the Italian and British forces together.
