Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the Bellacolonna vineyard in Calderara, on Mount Etna. The vineyard was planted in 2006 and 2007 after semi-abandoned, deteriorating old vines had been removed. The estate uses organic fertilizers and received organic certification in 2010.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and fermented at a controlled temperature of 25–28 °C. Malolactic fermentation follows.
Ageing
The wine matures in French oak barrels for 18 months after malolactic fermentation.
Vintage notes
Across Europe, 2022 was warmer than average, but conditions on Etna were comparatively moderate and well balanced, and significantly cooler than in 2017. An extended drought brought almost no rain apart from a small amount in mid-August, resulting in concentrated grapes and bold, juicy, fruit-driven wines.
Label / history
This limited edition was released to mark the estate’s 20th anniversary. Tenuta delle Terre Nere means “black lands” in Italian. The estate dates from the early 2000s and released its first wines in 2002.
