Vineyard and terroir
The vineyard’s name, Palistorti, refers to its crooked stakes. Limestone rocks at the surface prevented the local farmers from setting the posts in straight lines. The wine is conceived as a more immediate expression of Valgiano’s character.
Grapes
Two incompatible formulas appear on the current page without vintage labels. One reads 60% Sangiovese, 10% Syrah, 10% Merlot and 10% other varieties, although these figures total only 90%. The other reads 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification
The harvested grapes are destemmed and sorted on sorting tables. Fermentation is gentle and takes place in small vats, accompanied by manual punch-downs and minimal racking.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months, with 60% held in French-oak barriques and 40% in vitrified concrete tanks.
Label / history
The name records a physical feature of the vineyard: its exposed limestone made straight rows of supporting stakes impossible.
Awards
The page shows a Slow Wine score of 98/100, a Forbes designation as Best Tuscan Wine 2021 and a Vinous 2012 score of 95/100. It does not clearly associate the first two entries with wine vintages.
