Vineyard and terroir

Insolia from western Sicily, grown on mixed soils dominated by siliceous clay. The regional climate is characterized by mild, rainy winters, very dry and windy springs, and summers with marked temperature swings.

Grapes

100% Insolia.

Vinification

The grapes are pressed very gently, with only the free-run must used. The must ferments slowly in stainless steel at a controlled 16–17°C for about 15 days while in contact with its yeasts.

Ageing

At least 3 months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by at least 1 month in bottle at controlled temperature.

Technical data

2024 vintage. Alcohol 11.5% vol.; total acidity 5.35 g/L; pH 3.18. Bottle format: 75 cl. Ageing potential: 2 years.

Tasting profile

Bright straw yellow with greenish reflections. The intense, distinctly fruity bouquet has notes of white fruit and notable character. The palate is fresh, harmonious and persistent.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 6–8°C. Excellent with crustaceans, seafood and fish dishes in general.

Label / history

Colomba Platino was created in 1959 through the inspiration of Topazia Alliata, daughter of Duca Enrico and the last Alliata-family heir to manage the winery. The current line’s labels draw on Poliedrica, Arrigo Musti’s artwork dedicated to Topazia and displayed in the Duca di Salaparuta cellars in Casteldaccia. The Insolia label depicts Artemis, goddess of the hunt, wild nature and the moon, as a symbol of independence and feminine strength and a tribute to Topazia’s courage.
