Vineyard and terroir

Frappato from central-southern Sicily, grown on medium-textured soils with a good presence of carbonates and gypsum. The regional climate combines mild, rainy winters with very dry, windy springs and summers marked by strong temperature swings.

Grapes

100% Frappato.

Vinification

The grapes undergo light maceration in the press to extract aroma and colour. The must then ferments in stainless steel at a controlled temperature.

Ageing

At least 3 months in stainless-steel tanks in contact with the lees until bottling, followed by at least 1 month in bottle at controlled temperature.

Technical data

2024 vintage. Alcohol 12.5% vol.; total acidity 5.93 g/L; pH 3.22. Bottle format: 75 cl. Ageing potential: 3 years. The 2024 harvest was the first vintage produced.

Tasting profile

Bright pink. Aromas of wild strawberry, rose and violet lead to a delicate yet intense palate with pronounced savouriness, persistence and length.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 6–8°C. Pair with seafood appetizers, fresh cheeses and lightly aged cured meats; it is also suited to battered fried dishes.

Label / history

Colomba Platino originated in 1959 through the creative vision of Topazia Alliata, daughter of Duca Enrico and the last Alliata-family heir to manage the winery. The contemporary labels are based on Poliedrica, Arrigo Musti’s artwork dedicated to Topazia and displayed in the Duca di Salaparuta cellars in Casteldaccia. The rosé label portrays Demeter, goddess of agriculture and family, in tribute to Topazia’s work caring for and protecting both her family and the winery.
