Vineyard and terroir
The Nebbiolo comes from the historic Bricco Rocca vineyard in the commune of La Morra. The site has a southern exposure and soils with a significant proportion of sand mixed with clay and limestone. The sand contributes to finer, more elegant tannins, while the limestone brings freshness and a taut mineral character. The vines are old, with some planted in 1951, and give low yields of concentrated, complex fruit.
Vinification
The estate follows a traditional, minimally interventionist approach focused on fruit quality and terroir. Fermentation takes place in open vessels, with extended maceration lasting up to three weeks. Extraction is gentle to draw out aromas and tannins while preserving Nebbiolo’s delicate character.
Ageing
The wine matures for around 18 months in old barriques aged eight to ten years. They impart little perceptible oak character, instead allowing gentle micro-oxygenation that softens the structure and brings out nuance.
Tasting profile
Serious and powerful yet refined, with elegant restraint and quiet depth. The tannins are fine and elegant, balanced by freshness and a taut mineral character.
Serving and pairing
Suited to colder months and rich meat dishes from Northern Italy.
Vintage notes
The 2021 vintage was delicate. Vinification therefore emphasized restrained extraction, balance and precision rather than density.
