Vineyard and terroir

The Nebbiolo comes from the Casa Maté and Gavarini Chiniera vineyards. The family estate has 14 ha of vineyards in the hills around Monforte d’Alba, in the southern part of Barolo.

Vinification

Fermentation lasts 12–16 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with daily pump-overs, followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine matures for 30 months in 25 hl Slavonian oak casks, followed by a further 8–10 months in bottle in the winery’s cellars.

Label / history

Founded in 1928, the family estate is managed by Elio, his wife Marina and their son Gianluca, who oversee the vineyard and cellar work. Oenologist Piero Ballario serves as consultant. Rather than making a basic Barolo, Elio produces wines from three individual crus to highlight different facets of Nebbiolo.
