Vineyard and terroir

The estate has 12 ha of vineyards around 80 m above sea level. The soils are limestone with thin layers of chalk, and the vines average 10 years of age. Signa, a few dozen kilometres west of central Florence, has a warm microclimate.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place in wooden barrels and steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine matures in oak barrels for approximately 20–24 months.

Tasting profile

The 2016 vintage has an impressive aroma and an elegant, balanced, fruit-forward palate.

Vintage notes

In Tuscany, the 2016 harvest was smaller than usual but of exceptional quality. A dry, hot summer and cool nights enabled slow ripening and full maturity. Rain at the end of August brought freshness to the wines.

Label / history

Pine bears the motto “Sempre e comunque, credere, amare, lottare” — “Always and forever, believing, loving, fighting.” Fossi names each of his wines and creates an individual label using sayings, quotations and aphorisms intended to reflect its story and character. The winery produces 30,000–50,000 bottles annually, depending on the weather and the yield from each vineyard.
