Fabio Ferracane

Origins

Fabio Ferracane's father inherited 3 ha of vineyards from Fabio's grandfather. In the 1990s, the father handed over most of these vineyards to other wineries in the Marsala area, and the family continued to make wine only for their own use.

Fabio's beginnings

Fabio's first memories of winemaking date to when he was 15 years old, helping his father make a few bottles of homemade wine. A couple of years later, he decided to study oenology and viticulture, going on to gain experience at several wineries, including some abroad. At university he was taught that wine was a biochemical process, but he came to see it differently, understanding wine as something rooted in the land rather than in chemistry.

Today

Azienda Agricola Fabio Ferracane currently owns 5 ha of vineyards, with plans to acquire another 2 ha in the future.

Most of Fabio Ferracane's vineyards are located almost directly opposite the Stagnone Islands of Marsala Nature Reserve, with views of the Egadi Islands. The vines are cooled by sea breezes and warmed by the Sicilian sun.

Fabio Ferracane works daily in the vineyard as part of his effort to make genuine wine, aiming to express the Marsala area as fully as possible through his wines.

Fabio Ferracane does not see himself as a winemaker who sits in the cellar adjusting the wine; instead, his approach follows a path that begins in the vineyard, continues through the cellar, and goes into the bottle. He works in the cellar every day as part of his mission to make genuine wine.

Fabio Ferracane makes wines that aim to express their place of origin as fully as possible. He states, "I'm not the kind of winemaker who sits in the cellar adjusting the wine. It was through studying oenology that I understood that real wine is not about chemistry, but about the land." He describes authenticity as being able to fully express the Marsala area through his wines, and making genuine wine as a mission that motivates his daily work in the vineyard and cellar.
